Premio Ribot, Gr.2, 3 y.o. and up, metres 1600, wide track, Roma – Capannelle, Sunday, November 12; Sun, sloppy (sticky) going
Also run: Doowaley, Montestefano, Pico Azul, Huambo, Vincenzo Dante, Midyan Call, Iftiraas, Victorian Guide. Retired: Guarleon. Distances: (3 length, half length, half length). Time: 1. 44 ANALYSIS. No problem for the winner, Dane Friendly, coming forward all the other rivals in the 2000 edition of Pr. Ribot; and, apparently, a security margin too for the second arrived at the finish, Slaney Squire, but a cross occurred before the last furlong, causing a claim by the trainer of the third, the outsider Blu for Life. The claim must have been quite difficult to debate, judging by the minutes needed for settling the question, but, at last, the stewards in service at the Capannelle track decided to retrocede Slaney Square, perhaps because the horse injured regained ground in the last 100 metres. But, as said, the winner was out the range of competitors, helped by the brisk pace imposed, perhaps with excessive boldness, by the German Banyumanik, and by the perfect pitching acted, just beyond the straight entrance, by N· 1 of Italian jockeys, Mirco Demuro, just on board of Dane Friendly, colour-bearer of Allev. White Star (White Star Stud), who was for the entire 1999 in England, where got some moderate results as a consequence of a pelvis fracture diagnosed at 2 years. In the year 2000 in Italy, he was 3rd in the Pr. Emilio Turati, Gr.2, at Milan – San Siro, in May and again 4th in his last race run always in Milan, October 8, the Pr. Vittorio di Capua, Gr.1, always at the mile objectively not a lot in front of runners such as the British Iftiraas, (winner of Matron Stakes, Gr.3 at The Curragh, 3rd in the Prix d’Astarté, Gr.2 at Deauville, very disappointing in this race, never in evidence in the straight), or the German Montestefano, (winner of the Pr. del Piazzale), but neither an extreme outsider if the stable engaged for mounting him the leader of Italian jockeys. And so this son of the well known and appreciated in both the hemispheres, Danehill, replaced very worthy the stable companion Midyan Call, the counter-favourite, curbed by the deep autumn ground (sticky) found at Capannelle but also victim of the unlucky options of his jockey in the final part of the straight. Horse rather in the father type, but stouter and more developed, Dane Friendly is the first son out the winner of the Princess Stakes, Gr.3, at Ascot, 2nd in the Parisian marathon Prix Royal Oak, Gr.1, Always Friendly, with on her credit side other placings in group races in France and England on long distances. His agonistic feature is own of a daughter of High Line, a son of High Hat, who are both a good stamina branch of the great chief de race Hyperion, a bit in difficulties with his sons as sires; branch however more active, present and valued in the group races contest than sprinter ramifications, tremendous developed in the post-war, but all in deep crisis, because of the “Northern Dancer phenomenon”. The previous links of the female line of Dane Friendly are of typical North-American development, and are constructed with males contributions of high level (Mr. Prospector, the chief de race Hail to Reason, Carry Back); from the great-grandmother of Dane Friendly, in particular, Wisdom, descend seven winners, with in the front rank the heroine of Exbitioner Park track, Just Another Dream. The second and the third placed in the Pr. Ribot, were bred in Italy, but are sons of stallions covering in Ireland, while the 4th arrived is the German Banyumanik, at the end tote counter- favourite for the perfect, fit conditions showed in the saddle and presenting rings, and also for the performances achieved in Germany. ------------------------------------------------ In the rich afternoon of the Capannelle track was scheduled also the Premio Umbria, Gr.3, metres 1200, for 2 y.o. and up, that was won by DEVELOPMENT, a m.b., 5 y.o. by Dancing Dissident out Gay’s Flutter, by Beldale Flutter, bred in Ireland by Mr. P.J. Farrington, owned by the Scuderia Becco e Becco (Becco and Becco Stable), trained at Milan – San Siro, by Luigi Mele. In second place was the outsider Novità Eclatanti, m.b. 3 y.o. by Imp Society out Jackie Mendez, by Mendez, while in the third was the technical favourite (but not of the bettors), the 2 y.o. Sign of Nike, owned by a German but of Anglo-Irish sprint parentage (b. by Mistertopogigo, out Infanta Maria, by King of Spain).
