Kyra Kyrklund

Kyra’s training and riding career has kept her at the top of world class dressage for many years. She has trained and successfully competed no less than twelve different horses at international Grand Prix standard – an outstanding achievement which few riders could ever emulate. In her native Finland she has been National Dressage Champion ten times, she has taken part in five successive Olympic Games (on her way to the 6th), won a silver medal at the World Equestrian Games in 1990 and won the Volvo World Cup final in 1991. Her world-famous horses include Matador, Edinburg, Flyinge Amiral, Master, Lillemarkens Arkibald and the rising star, Tip Top.

Andrew Nicholson

Andrew came to England at the raw age of l8 years old at the suggestion of a racehorse trainer who had purchased some young horses from him. Leaving New Zealand in the middle of high summer temperatures and landing at Heathrow some 40 hours later during a bleak, icy, wintry snow storm, he wondered if he had done the right thing. But with no money left to get home, life in England he decided had to be endured until he had the financial means to return.

He brought over a 5 year old ex racehorse with aspirations to make an impact on the British eventing scene. Somewhat naively it hadn’t occurred to Andrew that this horse, who had no previous eventing experience, would have any difficulty in adjusting to the “English way”. Luckily the horse proved to be a natural. A foreign buyer showed a keen interest in the horse and, after successfully competing in a few events, it was sold and Andrew returned to New Zealand.

But the trip overseas had broadened his horizons and opened his eyes to the opportunities on offer. Once back in the competitive scene in New Zealand, with its limitations, he became restless to return to England and it wasn’t long before he was back on a plane with another horse.

Now some l8 years on, Andrew has made a permanent base here, he has married, has two daughters and a large stable of about 25 horses. Now one of the most prolific equestrian riders in the world he has become a household name on the eventing circuit, both nationally and internationally. Renowned for successfully producing a large amount of horses to the top grade, his cross-country skills and ability hare brought him world wide admiration, with his opinions sought by competitors from every nation.

Andrew has a tremendous competitive record of success at events and has represented New Zealand at three Olympic Games and three World Championships. He has been placed at most major events on the continent, was top points winner under BHTA rules for an incredible nine successive years and has been in the top FEI Rider Rankings for the last five years

He is proof that you can get to the top with grit and determination to succeed with basic day to day training methods that anyone can employ and adapt to their own individual ability.
