FEI
Disciplines Discuss Modernisation Proposals |
Yesterday,
January 30, 2003, the EFI Executive Committee met at the Gt Southern
Hotel, Dublin.
Following
the Executive Committee meeting, an open forum was held at 7.30
p.m., involving representatives from the FEI disciplines of Show
Jumping, Eventing, Dressage, Endurance Riding and Carriage Driving.
Approximately 40 representatives attended. The EFI was represented
by President Avril Doyle, Assistant Secretary General Anne Chanarin,
MD of ASMT Ltd., Morgan Buckley, and consultant to the EFI, Col.
Ned Campion.
The
meeting lasted for over two hours and representatives from the FEI
disciplines were brought up to date on the proposed modernisation
plans for the EFI by Morgan Buckley, and had the opportunity to
obtain clarification of various issues in a question and answer
session with the EFI, on behalf of their member organisations,.
EFI
President Avril Doyle said afterwards: < The mood of the meeting
was very positive, and many points of the modernisation proposals
were clarified. While everyone has agreed to move forward, caution
was expressed in some quarters, particularly by new Chairpersons.>
During
the meeting the President agreed to SJAI Chairman Charles Hanleys
suggestion that a separate presentation be made to the Executive
of the SJAI by Morgan Buckley.
Avril
Doyle said: <Our restructuring is in line with the Connellan
report for the proposed integration of the EFI and the IHB bodies.
While parallel discussions are continuing with the Irish Horse Board
and the Department of Sport, there is an imperative for us to get
the sporting house in order in any case.>
She
added: < I believe we have moved a considerable way forward in
explaining the modernisation proposals, and I am hopeful that all
of the bodies involved will see the practical advantages of becoming
closely involved in the implementation of the plan to restructure
the organisation, which will ensure the professional service which
our athletes rightly demand, and establish proper communication
between the service agency, which is the EFI, and its member disciplines>
