Women
Dominate The Field On Super Bowl Sunday In The $50,000 EMO Grand
Prix |
Indio, CA (January 27, 2003)--As Tampa Bay and the Raiders were battling
it out in a rough-and-tumble Super Bowl, four women rose above a field
of twenty-one entries to compete in the jump-off for the $50,000 EMO
Grand Prix. English rider, Helen McNaught and her mount Lexicon were
the final victors in the special Grand Prix class, which was the highlight
of Sunday's competition at the HITS Indio Desert Circuit.
Course
designer Danny Foster was responsible for building a challenging
course that only four riders could master. The first to perform,
Misti Cassar on Pasadena, made the going look easy with a faultless
round in 88.9 seconds, well within the time allowed of 103. The
following eleven riders could not match her opener and it was the
twelfth in the order, McNaught, who gave the crowd the second clear
round. Laura Linback on her second mount, Grand Soso 2, saw her
way clear also, and Susan Hutchinson on Itano De La Bastide delivered
the last clear round of the field.
Misti
Cassar was the first to return for the jump-off and turned in a
faultless round in 55.3 seconds. Helen McNaught and Lexicon rose
to the challenge, going clear and shaving almost 5 seconds off Cassar's
time. Both Susan Hutchison and Laura Linback knocked a rail, with
Linback delivering the fastest time of the four with 50.1 seconds.
