Man Sentenced for Pony Cruelty
|
Today,
Monday 26 January, at Thetford Magistrates Court in Norfolk, Clonus
Jones was sentenced for causing unnecessary suffering to a yearling
piebald colt in his possession.
Jones,
of Shelfanger Road, Diss was sentenced to 150 hours community service,
ordered to pay £2,000 costs and banned from keeping horses
for 1 year.
He
was convicted at a hearing at Swaffham Magistrates Court on 17th
December last year, when he changed his plea from not guilty to
guilty, only minutes prior to going into court. The magistrates
at today's sentencing questioned how Mr Jones could care for the
65 horses he admitted to owning, when he claimed to be living on
benefits alone.
The
prosecution made it clear to the court the difficult circumstances
under which the two charities had to work, which included threats
of physical violence, verbal abuse, non cooperation and the unnecessary
destruction of a young animal that could have been saved.
