Bendabout Advance To Sunday's Final At International Polo Club Palm
Beach
WELLINGTON,
Florida Catamount and Bendabout each registered similarly
comfortable victories in the semifinals Thursday to advance to the
final of the 22-goal Joe Barry Memorial polo tournament at International
Polo Club Palm Beach.
The
championship game will be played Sunday at 3 p.m. at the stadium
field at the new International Polo Club Palm Beach.
In
the first semifinal, 10-goaler Mike Azzaro and patron Scott Devon
scored four goals apiece to lead Catamount (4-0) over Brigadoon
12-8. Catamount scored three consecutive goals, two by Carlos Gracida,
to extend its lead to 10-6 early in the sixth chukker. A goal by
Brigadoons Brian Prichard cut the margin to 10-7, but Devon
and Ulysses Escapite answered with two goals in 90 seconds to bump
the advantage to 12-7 with 2:15 remaining.
In
the second semifinal, patron Gillian Johnston and Boone Stribling
each scored four goals to pace Bendabout (3-0) past Crab Orchard
13-8. Bendabout scored five unanswered goals in the second half
to take an 11-6 lead and coasted to victory. Ten-goaler Miguel Novillo
Astrada scored three goals and his younger brother, Alejandro, added
two goals for the winners. Bendabouts defense held 9-goaler
Memo Gracida scoreless. Julio Arellano led Crab Orchard with six
goals.
The
polo final is open to the public with tickets beginning at $10 each.

International
Polo Club Palm Beach is located at 3667 120th Avenue South in Wellington.
From I-95, take the Forest Hill Boulevard exit and go west approximately
12 miles. Turn left onto South Shore Boulevard and go two miles.
Turn left onto Pierson Road, travel about one mile and then make
a right onto 120th Avenue South. The club is on the right. From
Floridas Turnpike, take Exit 93 (Lake Worth Road) and go west
about six miles. Make a right onto 120th Avenue South. The club
is on the left.
