Carroll Rallies To Defeat San Saba In Overtime In Ylvisaker Cup Opener
At International Polo Club Palm Beach
WELLINGTON,
Florida Eight-goaler Pancho Bensadon scored on a breakaway
17 seconds into overtime, capping an amazing comeback, to lift Isla
Carroll over San Saba 12-11 in the opening game of the 22-game Ylvisaker
Cup Friday at International Polo Club Palm Beach.
Isla
Carroll scored five goals in the final 4:14, tying the game with
four seconds remaining on Bensadons tap-in from in front of
the goal in traffic.
San
Saba took an 11-6 lead on Hector Galindos goal with 6:20 left
in the final chukker.
Isla
Carroll began the comeback when Tomas Del Rio scored on a breakaway
with 4:14 left. Bensadon then scored three goals within a two-minute
span -- a back shot and two penalty conversions to bring
Isla Carroll within one, 11-10, with 1:37 left.
San
Saba could not clear the ball as Isla Carroll dominated the final
90 seconds to get the tying goal.
Bensadon
finished with seven goals while Sugar Erskine and patron John Carroll
scored two goals apiece. Agustin Merlos led San Saba with nine goals.
The
Ylvisaker Cup in named in honor of William T. Bill Ylvisaker,
a polo pioneer who founded Palm Beach Polo and Country Club in the
late 1970s and was elected into the Polo Hall of Fame in 1996. Ylvisaker
has won numerous major polo tournaments, including the prestigious
U.S. Open in 1972.

Polo Club Palm Beach is located at 3667 120th Avenue South in Wellington.
From I-95, take the Forest Hill Boulevard exit and go west approximately
12 miles. Turn left onto South Shore Boulevard and go two miles.
Turn left onto Pierson Road, travel about one mile and then make
a right onto 120th Avenue South. The club is on the right. From
Floridas Turnpike, take Exit 93 (Lake Worth Road) and go west
about six miles. Make a right onto 120th Avenue South. The club
is on the left.
