The
Kinder Collar
Horses in driving harness often damage the point of shoulder
because they cannot judge their own position in blinkers and
can easily catch themselves on doorways or in hazards at competitions.
The
brainchild of Fiona Tedman, the Empathy Collar is the result
of meticulous research, over several years, to design a driving
collar for a cob with an injured shoulder. After experimenting
with different shaped collars, it was found that a curved
style, which sweeps up over the point of the shoulder, but
dips below the soft part of the neck, makes load pulling much
more comfortable for horses that have suffered some kind of
shoulder injury as well as smaller driving horses with a low
headset, such as Shetlands or cobs, that often experience
pressure to the shoulder or windpipe when using conventional
breastcollars.
In
trials it emerged that the Empathy Collar provided other benefits
to all types of horse, regardless of confirmation: it is fully
adjustable in size and lighter, which frees up the shoulder
and enables the horse to make a stride without pressure on
the shoulder. As a result, drivers have reported that walking
speeds improve and strides become more free in extended trot.
The Empathy Collar comes with a range of additional innovative
features.
The
Empathy Collar is available in the new 2003-2004 Driving Harness
Catalogue along with a complete range of driving bits, training
and corrective items and other accessories that are unbeatable
in price and value.
