Designated son of Ferro sold to the U.S. for 300.000 Dutch guiders:

FIRST EDITION OF KWPN SELECT SALE HUGE SUCCESS

On Saturday afternoon 3 February the Brabanthallen in Den Bosch was packed to the rafters. For the first time, for the closing of the yearly stallion approvals, the KWPN SELECT SALE took place. Twenty one three-year-old stallions were auctioned, seven of which were designated by the stallion approval committee for the performancetest in Ermelo. The average price rose above 80.000 Dutch guilders; only one stallion went back to its owner.

The best of the auction was Rambo, the Ferro x Roemer x Homerus owned by Mr. Lamers and Mr. Van der Goor, which had been elected to participate in the approval of champions a couple of hours beforehand. For 300.000 guilders this promising dressage horse was sold to Hilltop Farm in the U.S. The most expensive show jumper was Rajan J owned by Gert Jan van Olst; this Animo x Burggraaf x Purioso exchanged owners for 220.000 Dutch Guilders. Rajan J is, just as Rambo, designated for the performance examination and, therefore, has a chance to be approved as a stud. The designated stallions Regilio (Heartbreaker x Burggraaf) and Rapperd (Flemmingh x Roemer) each went for 130.000 guilders; Rendez Vous (Montecristo x Marinier) went under the hammer for 110.000 guilders to the owner of Montecristo himself, Stoeterij Broere.

There was also a lot of interest for the other stallions. Eleven stallions were sold to Dutch buyers; the rest went to foreign bidders. The Swiss dealer Gerhard Etter bought the Animo x Lancer II and the Monaco x Aram. The Burggraaf x Nimmerdor and the Lux x Rex Magna xx go to Ireland; the Kennedy x Glendale to England; the designated Flemmingh x Roemer to the U.S. and the designated Heartbreaker x Burggraaf to Belgium.

The non-bidding public too enjoyed a wonderful afternoon in the Brabanthallen. To open the auction proceedings, Zegwaards Pacino was sold. This one and a half year-old piebald Falabella went for 15.000 guilders. Moreover the top stallions Olympic Ferro, Animo, Jazz, Burggraaf, Heartbreaker, Kennedy and Montecristo were present to give a show and to lead their sons into the arena.
