High-Point Horse Infenitee++// Wins Sundowner Trailer

This year's Sundowner High-Point Horse, the Arabian stallion Infenitee++// (MHR Port Zar x Ga-Maara), racked up more points in the Arabian Horse AssociationSM(AHASM) Horse Achievement Awards program in one year--377--than any previous winner. His achievement earned his owner/breeder Margaret Vanden Broek of Norco, California, a two-horse trailer from Sundowner, an AHA Corporate Partner. But the real honor is not how many points Infenitee++// earned but how he earned them.

In 2002, 11 different riders showed Infenitee++//. They ranged from professional trainers to a first-time entry in native costume. What's astonishing is that he wins championships with beginners and amateurs as easily as he wins with trainers.

"We have had just about every kind of rider you can think of on him, and some didn't even have time to practice," says Lance Curtis, who trained the stallion and shows him for Vanden Broek. "Or it's the first time they ride him in the ring and he takes a national championship. He is a very easy horse to work around and always willing to work hard at impressing anyone who rides him."

With youth and beginners, Infenitee++// is the perfect gentleman. He inspires confidence and takes them to heights they never thought they could achieve. Last July, Devin Drake, a 12-year-old girl who had only competed in a walk/trot class at all-Arabian shows before, rode him to a championship in Arabian Mounted Native Costume JTR 13 and Under at the Arabian Youth Nationals. Her 17-year-old sister Lauren won three national titles on him showing for the first time in mounted native costume and side saddle and the second time in show hack.

Infenitee++// competes and wins in five different disciplines-- country English pleasure, native costume, show hack, ladies side saddle and driving. He claimed nine regional championships, one reserve champion and 11 top fives in those disciplines in 2002, and he's never in training. When not showing, he stays home and produces national champion offspring.

Infenitee++// started life as an English pleasure horse and was switched to western pleasure, a discipline in which Vanden Broek showed him to a number of Class A reserve championships from 1994-96.

"He's even been shown hunter," says Vanden Broek. "About the only thing he hasn't done is jumping or reining, but I think he'd make a nice reining horse. He will swap leads back and forth along the rail if you just ask."

Someday Vanden Broek's daughter, Cindy Martin, who's won numerous national and regional amateur titles with Infenitee++/, would like to attempt trail. At home, she often throws a bareback pad on him and rides around Norco on the nearby trails. "Last year I rode him in the hills everyday and swam him in the Santa Ana River to build up his muscles," says Martin. "Infenitee++// and I have grown up together, and I have learned a lot from him. He is my best friend."

"Our yard is not very big. We have to back down a narrow 100-foot driveway because I can't turn my six-horse trailer around," says Vanden Broek. "It will also be nice to have a small trailer when I only want to haul one to two horses."

The presentation of the Sundowner Trailer will occur at the 2003 Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show on Saturday, February 22.
