Catton has been officially selected to host the World Championship
Carriage Driving Trials over three days in July 2005. The event
will take place in the Park in front of the beautiful setting of
Catton Hall, on a course, which is considered to be one of the best
in the country. Ancestors of the Neilson Family purchased the Catton
Estate in 1405, and the existing house, built in 1745, is still
lived in as their private family home.
Catton
regularly hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including
Rock Concerts, Steam Fairs, Horse Trials, and Country Fairs and
is very experienced at accommodating large public functions. Regional
Driving Trials have been hosted for the past seven years as have
two highly successful Nationals in 2002 and 2003.
Several
countries including America competed to host these championships,
which have only ever taken place twice in Britain in the last twenty
years, and England was very fortunate to have been chosen. We are
confident we have an ideal venue and location at Catton and there
is no reason why this world class event should not be a spectacular
success.
Last
year a new format for the World Championship Driving Trials was
tried in Austria, which was an outstanding success and which may
now become the standard for future World Carriage Driving Events.
This makes for a far more exciting competition and is likely to
attract a much larger number of followers and spectators.
