Kurten Takes Seventh At Zurich On New Mount
|
AFTER
some weeks of waiting, Jessica Kurten finally took a Top ten place
with her newly-acquired horse, <Castle Forbes Maike>, the
ten yr-old Dutch-bred mare formerly ridden by Belgium's Philippe
LeJeune.
Purchased
by Lady Georgina Forbes, the mare has not featured well in any class
in the short time since Kurten took over as rider, a phenomenon
usually associated with horse and rider getting to know one another.
But today (Saturday) in the major Swiss Life event at Zurich, the
bay mare finally started to show her moves, taking a very respectable
seventh in a huge Accumulator class of 55 riders.
However,
pundits will be watching closely to see how Maike performs in a
major jump-off class.
Ireland's
other rider at Zurich was not so fortunate in today's competition.
World Champion Dermott Lennon finished in last place with just 14
points, riding a new horse, <Leadman>, though it is more than
likely the Co. Down rider was using the competition as a schooling
class. However, he also rode one of his established string, <I
Caesar>, in the Accumulator, and only managed a disappointing
50th place.
