JODHPUR- TO TILWARA ON HORSEBACK FOR THE TILWARA
(BALOTRA ) FAIR. Total Distance 164 km.
The
horse trail to the famous Balotra Fair is most interesting as the
trail shows off ancient temples , fortresses as well as a variety
of bird and animal life including blackbuck, wintering siberian
duck and cranes, and the blue bull.
The
culmination at the unique Tilwara(Balotra) fair which is religious,
cultural and an agrarian-cattle fair is a fantastic opportunity
to experience this India and Rajasthan.We begin by flying into the
unique city of Jodhpur built in the far flung desert ,largely in
stone and dominated by unique edifices like the Mehrangarh Fort,
and others.
We
ride fast Marwaris and explore the countryside like riders of old
and will find little has changed! Our 4-6 hour riding days provide
the right balance of relaxation and challenge.

DAY
01 of India Trip: 06th MAR- Arrive Delhi AM: Board Evening Flight
to Jodhpur Overnight hotel.
DAY
2 -07th MAR- Explore Jodhpur's famous Mehrangarh Fort and drive
to Kakani ( 26 km). after lunch. Overnight stay at camp with local
music and dance around a camp fire. Opportunity to go for an evening
walk around the villages see the local life and look at the hand
made carpet factory which Kankani is known for.
Day
3 DAY 01 OF RIDE -08TH MAR KAKANI - LUNI (20 KM): Ride out after
breakfast. The terrain in semi sandy and riders will ride past farmhouses
near a small lake with a variety of birds. Pass the Raja Rama Temple
dedicated to the Chodri caste. Lunch enroute.
The
Luni Haveli (see pic at link below) owned by one of the noble families
of Marwar can also be seen.

4 DAY 02 OF RIDE -09TH MAR LUNI - SAMDRI ( 32 KM ) . Ride out post
breakfast .Visit RAOWALA enroute . Luni-Sumdri: The ride starts
after an early breakfast.Lunch enroute. The terrain is semi sandy
with open fields suitable for a nice gallop and narrow roads crossing
through villages. Nice soft tracks for horses and riders when crossing
through farmland. Barbecue dinner Overnight.
Day
5 DAY 03 OF RIDE-10TH MAR SAMDRI - SIWANA ( 20 KM) Post breakfast
ride out over hard terrain. Riders will cross the Luni River, which
is dry, and see various temples, which are interesting to pass by
although still undiscovered by tourists. Visit a very popular farmhouse
and a historical fort. Lunch enroute. Overnight stay at the camp
with local dance. The model farmhouse is important due to its well
laid out fields. Previously owned by Kalla, the grandson of Rao
Joda, the founder of Jodhpur, the fort is now a government owned
mounument .

6 DAY 04 OF RIDE -11th MAR 5 SIWANA - ASOTRA ( 33 KM ) Ride out
after an early breakfast. The terrain is less sandy than before.
Hilly area with several farmhouses. Lunch enroute. Overnight camp
in Asotra, famous for its Bhrama temple which is interesting to
see because of the presence of priests and Bhramins and the rituals
they will be seen to be performing.

7DAY 05 OF RIDE- 12th-MAR ASOTRA - TILWARA ( 33 KM ) Ride out after
breakfast .The day's ride will amongst other sights feature a famous
historical temple and an old fort: Early breakfast. Packed lunch.
The terrain is the as the previous days but, as you move towards
Tilwara it becomes sandier. You will go past the Jasal fort, which
is owned, by one of the local nobles. You can also visit the Rajasthani
printing bedcover workshops. In Tilwara you can find charming handicraft
shops. Also from our camp here we can go explore the dune country
on horseback, explore the historical fort of Jasol and other places
of interest.
Day 8 13th-MAR -DAY 9 14TH MAR DAYS 6-7 OF RIDE Riding/Camping at
Fair meeting the nomads and other villagers who have covered hundreds
of kilometers in some cases on foot, accompanied by livestock and
the entire family to barter as well as to pay homage. The womenfolk
in colourful and vibrant dresses, proudly mustachioed men and other
sights along with wandering singers and musicians are just some
of the unique sights that will be seen.
