Jeffery Welles and Equinox Win the $20,000 1.50 m Classic
Tampa,
FL March 28 Four horses made it to the jump off in
the $20,000 1.50 m Classic at the Tournament of Champions. There
were 29 horses to start the class with a course designed by Mehves
Trak of Turkey. This course was quite big and faults were scattered
about the course. First back in the jump off was McLain Ward of
Brewster, New York riding Galant. They were very fast with an inside
turn to the in-and-out and finished with 4 faults in 29.946 seconds.
Next was Jeffery Welles riding Equinox, a Dutch Warmblood gelding.
The pair was fast and clean but he did lose a little momentum on
the tight inside turn but finished in 31.432 seconds. Arriscraft
Rocca and Keean White from Canada were next in the jump off and
beat Jefferys time but had 4 faults. Last to go in the jump
off was Rich Fellers from California, he and McGuinness completed
the course with 4 faults. Jeffery and Equinox were the only double
clean in the class and the winner.

Boulton was Adult Hunter Champion 18-35 riding Caspari for owner
Frank Conway. Victoria Watters was Adult Hunter 35 through 50 Champion
and Reserve. She was Champion with See For Yourself and Reserve
with Eye Remember Rio. Mary Helen Shaugnessy was Adult Amateur Hunter
33 Champion on her own New Hope.
Betty
Oare was Champion in the Amateur Owner Working Hunter 36-50 division
with her Fiddlers Bridge.

$200,000 Budweiser American Invitational will be held March 29,
Saturday, at 7:00 PM in the Raymond James Stadium. This class has
one of the largest purses of any Grand Prix type competition in
this nation.
