to promoting health and fitness, through programs of amateur road
racing, cross-country, and track & field, in the spirit of fun
and competition.
The
Foxhall Flower Show, in its second year, is the only outdoor flower
show in the United States with Standard Flower Show status. This
year's theme, "A Southern Springtime," will showcase the
best of the American South while reflecting the history of traditional
European open-air flower shows. Featuring the creativity of award
winning professional and amateur designers, Foxhall will offer Show
Garden, Horticulture and Floral Design divisions. Show gardens will
compete for $60,000 in prizes. Attendees will enjoy exceptional
outdoor show gardens and will be informed about the latest trends
in gardening through informational displays and a lecture series.
In
its fourth year, the Foxhall Cup has been designated the National
Championship of Eventing by USA Equestrian. Over one hundred international
and American riders, including 2000 Sydney Olympic Gold Medallist
David O'Connor, will compete for $50,000. Eventing features Dressage,
Cross-Country, and Show Jumping and is the ultimate comprehensive
test of the all-around ability of the horse and rider. Captain Mark
Philips, the Foxhall Cup cross-country course designer, has made
innovative modifications to the course that covers Foxhall Farm
and runs alongside the Foxhall Flower Show. This year there will
be Combined Driving and Dressage Exhibitions.
