horse Nicoll to provide challenging course at Windsor

Richard Nicoll from the USA is set to provide another challenging course in his second year as Course Designer at the Land Rover International Driving Grand Prix during Royal Windsor Horse Show, 14th-18th May. Land Rover has confirmed that it will be sponsoring for the second year and to mark the continuing sponsorship, Nicoll will be introducing two new hazards, with the remainder being carefully updated.

Royal Windsor is a favourite venue in the world of International Driving, not only because of its high standard of competition but also because it takes place in the exquisite settings of Home Park Private and Windsor Great Park. Up to 80 entries are anticipated for the Land Rover International Driving Grand Prix this year, including an entry from HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. Over half the total number of entries will be from foreign participants.

The organisers have plans to move the Driving event on dramatically in the next 12 months and one visible change that will be seen at this year’s event will be the influence of the new course building team headed up by Fred Crew. Fred who is based in Cirencester and has been part of the course building team at Badminton Horse Trials, will ensure that each obstacle is ‘finished’ in keeping with the Park both in and out of the Driving season. The water hazard, which is always a highlight with spectators, is set to be faster than ever, promising to keep the drivers on their toes and the crowd damp!

Placings in the Land Rover International Driving Grand Prix will also count towards points for the FEI Top Driver Award, a prestigious award accumulated over several events.

Anyone keen to try their hand at driving will be presented with the opportunity to do so during lunch breaks on the Dressage days of Thursday 15th May and Friday 16th May. This exciting ‘teach-in’ will be hosted by a leading driving personality and will also include a questions and answers session for those who would like to know more about the sport.

Advance tickets for the Royal Windsor Horse Show are available from the box office, telephone 0870 121 5370 (or +44 115 912 9160 for international calls) and range from £10 - £12 for adults and £7 - £8 for concessions, with on the day prices from £12-£14 for adults and £7- £9 for concessions. A very attractive Membership package is also available by ringing 01753 860633. To find out more about Royal Windsor Horse Show visit the website at
