New service launched in equestrian security

A brand new service in equestrian security has been launched by Staffordshire based Saddle Safe, providing an electronic tagging solution specifically for saddles.

Saddle Safe utilise the Stoptheft® electronic tagging system, which involves the installation of a tiny passive tag into the saddle. Each tag is approximately 11.5mm x 2.12mm in size and pre-programmed with one of over 550 billion possible unique ID codes. The tag ensures positive permanent identification for the saddle and would be extremely difficult for a thief to locate or remove once in place.

With ever increasing reports of saddle and tack theft in the UK, Saddle Safe's new service offers saddle owners a method of obtaining positive identification for their saddle. Fitting of a Stoptheft® electronic tag will have the added benefits of dramatically reducing the resale value of the saddle and in turn working as a deterrent to potential theft. Working closely with the national Horsewatch scheme, Saddle Safe aims to play a proactive role in assisting crime reduction initiatives in the equestrian sector.

Unlike other electronic tagging systems Saddle Safe aim to provide a value-added service, which encompasses much more than just the tagging of the saddle. Each saddle is registered on both the Stoptheft database, which is accessible by the police 24 hours a day and Saddle Safe's own database, where a digital image of the saddle will be stored along with the registered owners details.

Protecting a saddle with a Stoptheft electronic tag will enable owner identification to be established any time and anywhere. More than 3650 scanners capable of reading Stoptheft electronic tags are currently in use by the Police in UK and Eire.

Oliver Parker, founder of Saddle Safe, comments "Protecting your saddle with an identification mark or tag may provide the vital piece of information to enable the Police to return it to you if it is stolen. Our service not only provide a solution for this but also aims to educate horse owners as to the importance of security for their tack and equipment.""
