2 Double Clear Rounds in the 1.45 m Class Both Horses Ridden

Tampa,
FL March 19, 2003 The Tampa Bay Classic began today
at the Winter Equestrian Festival at the fairgrounds - the second
week of competition in the Tampa area.
The
$7,500 1.45 m Time First Jump-Off held in the indoor arena had 26
entries and there were only 2 double clear rounds. Chris Kappler
rode both of them. He rode Royal Kaliber to the victory and was
second on Jorgen Winroths Profox.
A
$2,500 1.35 m class had 40 entries and was won by Thrilled with
Todd Minikus riding for YZ Partners.
The
First Year Green Hunters had 21 horses go in two classes over fences
and an Under Saddle Class. Mynos with Emil Spadone riding for Redfield
Farm won the first jumping class. The other over fence class was
won by Southern Lights with Samantha Darling riding for Dr. Sheila
Buchbinder.
The
American Invitational will be held March 29, in the Raymond James
Stadium. Thirty horses qualify to be invited by the amount of money
won during the Winter Equestrian Festival in designated classes.
This class has the one of the largest purses of any Grand Prix type
competition in this nation. The course designer for the Invitational
will be Steve Stephens of Palmetto, Florida. Mr. Stephens has designed
the course for the Invitational from 1985 up until now with the
exception of 1992 when Bert deNementhy designed the course. Mr.
Stephens, a well known course designer and horseman, competed in
and won this class in 1973 riding Houdini.
