Whisper
Throughout
time people have claimed to be able to talk to horses, gain an insight
into a horse's mind and know exactly what a horse is thinking or
feeling. These rare individuals are known as horse whisperers.
Do
these claims go unrecognised or are they just simply dismissed?
Unless there is scientific proof can people really believe in such
an unorthodox practice? One man's mission is to provide that proof.
He talks to horses, with some miraculous results.
Adam
Shereston believes that keeping a balance between mind and body
is one of the most important factors in producing a quality racehorse,
particularly with regard to the bloodlines. Some horses come from
the very best bloodline but seem to achieve very little on the racetrack.
Many people ask why it is that great champions produce such horses
and then seemingly from nowhere, a true champion emerges. Perhaps
the answer can be found
For
a horse to perform to its ultimate best, it needs to be both physically
healthy and psychologically sound. If there is conflict in either
of these areas an imbalance will develop, causing illness and distress,
which results in poor performance. Harmony in these areas will make
for a well-adjusted horse. When this is combined with good breeding,
you can have a true champion on your hands. What if at any time
during a horse's racing career one or both of these areas start
to break down? Naturally horse owners seek guidance through veterinary
science, although trying to determine what is causing the horse
to behave in a particular way can prove to be a challenging task.
What if there was a way of asking the horse to tell us exactly how
it is feeling or where it is experiencing pain? It could save time,
money and more importantly prevent the horse from suffering any
more than it needs to, if at all.
A
horse trainer and a prospective buyer will each make their own decision
about a horse's merit based on their individual assessment of a
horse's performance on the gallops. What if you could go deeper
in determining a horse's calibre and credentials? What if it was
possible to gain more valuable insight by using the "sixth
sense"?
What
some think is impossible is not necessarily the case according to
Adam. He believes that by developing and using this sixth sense
it is possible to gain great wisdom, far beyond that which the normal
five senses allow. So if this is possible, how does it work? The
sixth sense is within us all, but very few of us unlock its full
potential. To begin with, the senses that we already use and understand
have to be acknowledged. Realisation of the five senses can be gained
when we start to question their role in our everyday lives. The
senses are activated by external stimuli in our environment; this
is how we receive information. We then need to look at how we process
the information received and further to this how the bank of knowledge
acquired from this continuous transference and translation of information
becomes a series of learned responses which are selected automatically
by the brain, according to each situation. A horse builds an automatic
response system in a similar way, which compliments the natural
instincts that a horse is born with. Learning how the five senses
really work and how our mind reacts can, in time, unlock the sixth
sense. How many people actually look this deep?
Three years ago Adam discovered that he had an innate ability to
communicate with and heal horses. Following a lifetime of very little
spiritual inclination, he endured a series of phenomenal experiences
which opened up his potential to communicate using the sixth sense.
With this revelation he also found that he had unearthed an ability
to heal various ailments simply through touch. In the months leading
up to these incredible experiences, Adam went through a phase of
wondering exactly where feelings and emotions stem from and, through
much analysation, he came to the simple conclusion that most inner
feelings actually follow thought. On making this important discovery
a whole new world opened up before him, as he realised that happiness
can stem from materialising positive conscious thoughts.
It
was through this process that Adam gradually came to an understanding
of how his mind works and how it contributes to overall wellbeing.
It is his understanding that external stimuli and life experiences
filter through into our subconscious and are manifested as learned
behavioural responses. These reactions occur automatically through
association with a previously learned response to a similar set
of circumstances. Through monitoring each reaction he was able to
determine which previous situation had initially triggered a particular
embedded response. He was then able to re-programme his automatic
response system so that with each new situation he learned a different,
more positive reaction and with that he finally found true happiness.
By changing our responses we can alter our perception of the outside
world and our reflection on life.
Although
Adam's conscious mind kept pulling him in the direction of a life
which society would perceive to be acceptable, he had never felt
completely satisfied. Once he had gained respect for the gift with
which he had been granted he overcame the obstacles with sheer determination
and dedication. He began to sense a previously unrealised affiliation
with horses and envisaged that his true destiny was to become a
horse whisperer. Having recognised this new intelligence, and although
aware that he faced much scepticism ahead, he set out on his journey.
Earlier
this year Adam was called out to see a horse that was displaying
all the common visible symptoms of colic. The vets working with
this horse had carried out tests for colic but the results were
found to be negative. The only alternative would have involved intrusive
exploratory surgery. This would have proved costly to the owner
and caused the horse much distress. Fortunately, the owner had seen
an article about Adam's work. Although sceptical, they decided to
reserve judgement and see if he could shed some light on the situation.
The
horse communicated to him that it was suffering from crippling stomach
cramps, which it would transpire had been misdiagnosed as colic.
The horse was unaware of the exact source of the pain so Adam used
the sixth sense in order to determine the real cause. Through a
mental link with the horse, it became clear to him that an excessive
amount of air had been passing through the stomach, and that it
was building more rapidly than it was being expelled. He relayed
this information to the owner who in turn told him that the horse
was a chronic crib biter. With this knowledge Adam knew that crib
biting had caused there to be excess wind and a blockage had subsequently
been created. Adam needed to gain a quick understanding of the language
that the horse would recognise in order for him to communicate with
the horse to demonstrate how to alleviate its pain. It transpired
that the horse responded to a repeated enactment that Adam visually
emitted using telepathy. The horse duly stopped crib-biting and
following the expulsion of the excess air, and a healthy functioning
of the stomach was restored. Shortly afterwards the horse resumed
its racing career. Through Adam's experience, he has come to recognise
this as a special means to communication with horses in resolving
physical or psychological maladies.
Intuitive
assertions such as these initially arose through a series of unfamiliar
sensations which Adam experienced. He found that he was picking
up on the thoughts and feelings of people around him. An intense
emotion or physical alteration would become present within him with
such force that he was certain that it was not a feeling of his
own. These feelings would only disappear once the respective person
had parted company with him.
When
working with horses suffering from certain ailments Adam senses
physical discomfort in a particular region of his body. Bearing
in mind the difference that exists between the anatomy of a horse
and that of a human, he gradually had to learn how to associate
which part of his body related to the area of affliction within
the horse. Sometimes Adam will simultaneously and repeatedly envisage
a mental picture of an historical incident which relates to the
horse, eventually providing him with the predetermining factor in
the horse's condition. On one occasion he worked with a horse that
had terrible pains in its rib cage. Following the manifestation
of a parallel pain within Adam he started to see a recurring vision
of a person striking a horse in this area with a shovel. Much to
the astonishment of the owner he confirmed that this had indeed
taken place.
On
another occasion Adam was introduced to a thoroughbred that had
been pulled up in each of its last four outings. The trainer could
not understand what was causing the problem. Through communicating
with this horse Adam detected a complication in the lungs that had
resulted in breathing difficulties. He successfully dealt with the
problem in his unique way and also advised the trainer to implement
some key changes. Subsequently the horse's condition dramatically
improved and it was able to complete the Alvis Grand Military Gold
Cup successfully.
Adam
has many more equally incredible stories. He recounts a particularly
amusing tale that told of an interesting turn of events. He had
previously been called out to treat a so-called incurable disorder
that he tackled with astonishing results, much to the amazement
of the trainer and the vets involved. Six months later the same
trainer contacted Adam and told him that the horse seemed to be
showing signs of lameness again, although the previously visible
indications were not apparent. Upon visiting the horse Adam discovered
that the horse had brought him there under false pretences. In fact
this horse was being quite clever as if it knew that feigning lameness
would cause its owner to make contact with Adam again. The real
problem was actually one of a digestive nature, which would not
have been obvious to the trainer. The horse indicated to Adam that
a recent change in diet had caused it to feel unwell. The trainer
reintroduced the horse's original diet and shortly after this the
'lameness' disappeared.
So
this is where Adam spends most of his time, in and around stables
and racing yards, following his calling. He regularly works alongside
racehorse trainers, using his gift and providing great insight into
what a horse is actually thinking and feeling prior to a race. He
often accompanies trainers to sales and studs to assist them in
assessing a horse prior to purchase. By continuing every day to
learn from these animals and developing his gift he hopes that one
day, this will change the historical perceptions of many generations
in finding and preparing a true champion racehorse.
There
are many horse whisperers in this field today. Whether or not you
choose to believe, it is undeniable that these people have miraculous
stories to tell.
