The
British Horse Society North Region plans to celebrate the Jubilee
of its Patron H M The Queen with a grand horse extravaganza THE
VOICE OF THE HORSE. HRH The Princess Royal will be the guest of
honour at the BHS North Region flagship event on 12 June at Houghall
College, Durham.
Kay
Driver, BHS chief executive, said: "Her Royal Highness is well
known for her love of horses, and as our President will help to
put the message over to the public that the British Horse Society
is for everyone who loves horses and cares about their welfare."
The
VOICE OF THE HORSE will be a diverse celebration of horses and the
people who work with them everyday, using their skill and dedication
to improve the lives of horses. The star attraction will be a unique
opportunity to see every native breed in the British Isles - from
Shire to Shetland - in one arena. Other events include demonstrations
of horseball (known as rugby on horseback!), TREC, show jumping,
vaulting (gymnastics on horseback), carriage driving and side saddle
displays.
Visitors
will be able to see how a horse is shod in the farriers competition.
There will be demonstrations of saddle fitting and vet practice.
For the children there will be a chance to win riding lessons with
'guess the weight of the pony' and colouring competitions.
In
the Marquee there will be talks on all sorts of interesting topics
as well as a fashion show, and for those who like to shop, there
will be dozens of tradestands with arts and crafts, horticulture
and a farmers' market.
Entry
on the day will be £6, with children £3 and under 5s
free. There is a special price for BHS members of £4.50. Tickets
can be bought in advance with £1 reduction by sending a cheque
