Statement On Cancellation Of Blarney Castle Event |
THE
EQUESTRIAN FEDERATION OF IRELAND has learned from Sir Charles Colthurst
that, following the recent death of his father, Sir Richard Colthurst,
the Blarney Castle CCI*/**Three Day Event will not now take place
this year as scheduled. The Event was due to run during the weekend
of May 29 to June 1, inclusive.
EFI
President Avril Doyle said today (Wednesday): <We have received
this news with great regret, as it not only leaves a large gap in
Ireland's annual Eventing calendar, but also marks the passing of
one of the most exciting and colourful spectacles of the sporting
year. We were extremely saddened to hear of Sir Richard's death,
and on behalf of all the EFI Directors I would like to pay tribute
to him, his wife Lady Janet, and their daughter Georgina for the
decade of work,
enthusiasm, and organisation which they put into making Blarney
Castle an event of truly international status. We are sorry to hear
that Sir Charles will not find it possible to carry on the wonderful
tradition of the Blarney Three-Day Event.>
