EFI Appoints New Secretary-General

FORTY-NINE YEAR OLD Dan Butler has been appointed as Secretary-General of the Equestrian Federation of Ireland, taking the place left vacant by the retirement of Col. Ned Campion.

Dan, who was born in San Francisco, but whose family hails from Brosna in Co. Kerry, has had twenty years of marketing/management experience within the high tech and equine industries, and was selected after several rounds of interviews conducted by the EFI with applicants for the post.

Dan Butler has lived in the US, France, and the UK, and has worked extensively in Germany, where he was the Managing Director of Xybernaut GmbH, the world’s leading wearable computer manufacturer. He also set up the company Irish Horse Marketing, to promote the Irish Sport Horse in Germany and Switzerland. Dan is the founder of the Irish Draught Society in Germany, is also a member of the North American Society, and a member of the West Cork Branch of the Society.

His passion for horses started early with his family, and continued with active participation in show jumping and dressage event organisation in France, UK, and the US. Dan Butler has also been an active stallion owner and breeder since the early 1990s.

The EFI believes his strong international background in commerce and equine industries gives him ideal qualifications and experience to further implement the modernisation of the EFI, and play an active role in the future of Horse Sport Ireland.

Speaking about his appointment today (Thursday), Dan Butler said: <These are exciting times for the Horse Sport industry in Ireland, and my goal is to proceed with the modernisation and strengthening of the effectiveness of the Federation, while working closely with all our affiliates to make this happen, and those bodies involved in the future of the whole industry.>
