|
Gladstone,
NJApril 10, 2003-- The United States Equestrian Team (USET)
has honored show jumping rider Peter Wylde as the 2003 recipient
of the Whitney Stone Cup.
Each
year, since 1980, the USET has recognized an individual who has
achieved a distinguished record in international competition while
also serving as an ambassador for the USET and equestrian sports
by presenting them with the Whitney Stone Cup.
Wyldes international show jumping successes are highlighted
by the individual Bronze Medal in the Show Jumping World Championships
at the 2002 World Equestrian Games (WEG), in Jerez de la Frontera,
Spain. His medal was the first by a U.S. show jumping rider at
the World Championships since Conrad Homfelds individual
Silver in 1986. Also at the World Equestrian Games, Wyldes
horse Fein Cera was named Best Horse of the Games, the first U.S.
horse to achieve that since Gem Twist in 1990.
Wylde also won individual and team Silver Medals at the 1999 Pan
American Games in Winnipeg, Canada.
Wylde represented the USET at the World Cup Finals in Gothenburg,
Sweden in 1997, 1999 and 2001. That last year, he tied for sixth
place overall.
In 1999, Wylde was Co-Champion of the $100,000 Rolex/USET Show
Jumping Championship at the Bayer/USET Festival of Champions just
before earning his team and individual Silver Medals at the Pan
American Games. In additional to several U.S. Grand Prix wins,
he also won the Van Vlanderen Grand Prix in Belgium in December
2000.
