Goose Launches Rose At Chelsea Flower Show
|
Every
gardener knows that horse manure is good for roses. But now TV star
Claire Goose hopes roses will benefit horses
Today,
horse lover Claire, star of Casualty, Waking the Dead, launched
an exciting new rose variety, Golden Beauty at the Chelsea Flower
Show. Developed by Notcutts, it is hoped that Golden Beauty will
raise much-needed funds for the worlds largest equine charity,
the Brooke Hospital for Animals.
English
rose Claire reckons the new variety will be a blooming success with
gardeners. She said today: To have a beautiful rose that will
help the Brooke is fantastic, they do such wonderful work.
The
London-based Brooke Hospital for Animals gives free veterinary care
and welfare support to working horses and donkeys in India, Pakistan,
Egypt and Jordan, as well as helping educate their often impoverished
owners in equine care. Last year Brooke veterinary teams gave more
than one million equine treatments in these countries, which included
saving the lives of tens of thousands of sick, injured and starving
horses and donkeys owned by refugees fleeing Afghanistan.
Golden
Beauty is a superb rose that produces masses of amber-yellow flowers.
The flowers are produced in clusters throughout summer, and well
into autumn, accompanied by a sweet fragrance. However, unlike many
varieties of this colour, Golden Beauty is a vigorous grower and
has superb disease resistance. The glossy green foliage grows 90
cms (3ft) high and 60 cms (2ft) wide. Golden Beauty will make a
wonderful floribunda for any garden and comes from the same stable
as Rose Buxom Beauty, which was launched at Chelsea last year. Rose
Golden Beauty is the result of seven years worth of breeding and
trial ground assessment. It combines the unique benefits of a large
flower, strong fragrance and high disease resistance.
Each
Golden Beauty ordered from the Brooke Hospital for Animals will
raise £3.95 for the Brooke: enough to provide emergency treatment
for two horses.
Rose
Golden Beauty, priced £8.95, will be available exclusively
from Mattocks Roses, Notcutts Garden Centres and from the Brooke
Hospital for Animals, Broadmead House, 21 Panton Street, London
SW1Y 4DR, email: info@brooke-hospital.org.uk
or telephone 020 7930 0210.
