Box Office Opens for Burghley

The Box Office opens on 6th May for the sporting and social highlight of the autumn calendar, the Burghley Horse Trials 2004 (2nd-5th September) held at Stamford in Lincolnshire (UK).

This, the 44th Burghley Horse Trials, will follow hard on the heels of the Athens Olympics and provide the first opportunity to see the newly crowned Olympic medal winners in action. The Olympic theme is closely linked with Burghley as the Horse Trials was founded by the Marquess of Exeter, who himself won Olympic gold in the hurdles at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics and was immortalised in the film Chariots of Fire.

Burghley provided its own moment of sporting history in 2003, when Pippa Funnell shrugged off immense pressure to push Zara Phillips into second place and win the Rolex Grand Slam with its unique $250,000 prize pot.

In addition to providing the first chance to see the top riders after the Olympics, visitors to Burghley will be able to enjoy the finest shopping of any outdoor show in the country with over 400 top retail outlets. There will also be the opportunity to see some exciting additional attractions during the course of the Event such as Richard Davison’s Dressage to Music, the Burghley Strongid-P Pony Club Team Jumping on Thursday, the finals of the Burghley Winergy Young Event Horse Series on Friday and demonstrations on the art of understanding your horse with Parelli.

This year’s final phase, the show jumping on Sunday, will return to its traditional timetable with the top 25 jumping in the afternoon. Sunday visitors will be able to enjoy a packed ring programme including a parade of hounds, the band of the Royal Logistics Corps and the British Driving Society Championships.

Attractive discounts are available for some tickets booked in advance and all accompanied children aged 12 and under enter the showground free of charge. So plan ahead, take advantage and book early to make sure you enjoy what promises to be the biggest and best Burghley ever.
