Irish Teams
Set Out Once More On Nations Cup Trail
ALREADY
European Champions, Ireland's top show jumpers continue their battle
to win the prized Samsung Nations Cup League in competition at Poznan
in
Poland this weekend (June 6-9).
Currently
lying Eighth in the Nations Cup Rankings, Irish teams will be hoping
to improve their position over the next three months. In the 1999/2000
Season, Irish teams won the Samsung Nations Cup League against 31
other countries. In the 2000/2001 Season, Ireland finished Second
to Germany, with 34 other countries competing.
However,
two Irish riders, Kevin Babington and Cian O'Connor, currently lie
equal Second in the Samsung Nations Cup Leading Rider rankings,
while Ireland holds the two top places in the Leading Horse rankings
(Carling King and Waterford Crystal).
Poznan
kicks off a run of Nations Cup competitions in which Ireland will
be hoping to claw its way back to the top. These include LINZ, Austria
(June 13-16), AACHEN, Germany (June 25-30), FALSTERBO, Sweden (July
11-14), LUMMEN, Belgium (July 11-14), HICKSTEAD, England (July 24-28),
and DUBLIN (August 7-11).
Ireland
has already won Nations Cup competitions in Washington, USA and
Toronto, Canada, in the current 2001/2002 season.
