North American League Boosts Prize Money for Finals at Harrisburg

Annville, PA—June 13, 2002—Riders now have even more reason to try to qualify for the North American League (NAL) Finals, at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg, PA, in October.

The NAL has increased the prize money for the Children’s Hunter, Adult Hunter, and Children’s Jumper Finals to $10,000 for each division. The NAL Pony Jumper Final has been increased to $5,000. This is a one hundred percent increase in all four divisions. The prize money for the Adult Jumper Final and the Open Jumper Speed Final will remain the same as for 2001, $10,000 for the Adult Jumper Final and $25,000 for the Open Jumper Speed Final.

The number of riders who will be chosen to participate in the NAL Pony Jumper Final has also been increased from 20 to 25 riders. Thirty riders will also be eligible to compete in the Children’s and Adult Hunters and Jumpers, as well as in the Open Speed division.

“Interest in the North American League continues to grow and we felt that an increase in prize money was appropriate,” said NAL Senior Director Lloyd Longenecker. “We’re thrilled that the Series continues to grow in size and in importance to those involved in the hunter-jumper world.”

NAL Series classes for the six divisions—Children’s Hunter, Adult Hunter, Children’s Jumper, Adult Jumper, Pony Jumper, and Open Jumper—are held at hundreds of horse shows across the United States and Canada and the 2002 season runs from September 1, 2001 through August 31, 2002. NAL members earn points for placings in NAL classes throughout the year and selection for the Finals at Harrisburg is based on point standings as of August 31, 2002.

It not too late to join for the 2002 season. Riders need not be members of the NAL to compete in the qualifying classes, but only current members earn points towards the year-end finals. Membership applications must be received at the League Office within 10 days of the completion of an event for points from that event to count. The annual fee is $20 per rider.
