South Essex Insurance Brokers Offers Help To Potential Stars

Owners and riders of horses from a prestigious Horse of the Year Show qualifying competition are to be offered advice on preparing for a national show.

South Essex Insurance Brokers, which launched and runs the Search for a Star series is organising a Training Day open to horses with places already booked for this year's Horse of the Year Show at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham..

Nicolina MacKenzie, the company's sales and marketing manager and driving force behind the Search for a Star series, said: "Competing indoors with so much going on can be a shock for both horse and rider and we are doing everything we can to prepare them so that everyone is competing on equal terms.

"The other consideration is that preparing horses to go before the country's most experienced judges is an art in itself, and we decided to offer them as much help as possible."

Richard and Marjorie Ramsay, two of the country's leading show horse judges, producers and riders, will be taking the day, which will be at College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe, Bedfordshire, on September 9. Fee for the day will be £20, with spectators welcome and asked to pay £5.

Owners and riders will be given practical advice on preparing and turning out both horse and rider and some tips on essential ring craft. "Our aim is to see that the horses go into the ring at the NEC with every advantage to do themselves justice," said Miss MacKenzie.

Search for a Star opens its six-venue selection series on June 29 at Osbaldeston, and moves on to West Wilts Equestrian Centre on July 14, College EC August 3, Sands Farm, West Sussex on August 10 and Towerlands, Essex, on August 18.
