States Equestrian Team Announces Eventing Short List For
The 2002 World Equestrian Games

has announced the horses and riders named to the short list for
the Eventing World Championships to be held at the 2002 World
Equestrian Games in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, September 11-22.

Those
named to the list will participate in a series of training sessions
with USET Chef dEquipe Captain Mark Phillips over the next
two months. The training sessions will be held in Montana, Virginia
and Pennsylvania. All short-listed horse rider combinations and
alternates will then be required to participate in a Mandatory
Short List Outing in The Plains, Virginia on August 16-17.
Following the Mandatory Short List Outing, the USET will ship
eight short-listed horses to England for additional training with
Captain Phillips. On September 9, the final squad of seven horses
will be named and will travel to Spain for the Games. The selection
of the four horse-and-rider combinations that will ride on the
team and the two horse-and-rider combinations who will compete
as individuals will be made after arrival in Spain.
The United States Equestrian Team is a non-profit organization
that selects, trains, equips and finances equestrians of the highest
possible standard to represent our country in major international
competition, including the Olympic Games and the World Championships.
