Michael
Whitaker's 10-year-old gelding, Landfurst 6, owned by the Gillespie
Brothers, has sadly been humanely destroyed following a fall at
CSIO Aachen yesterday. Landfurst 6 was originally x-rayed on site
and then transferred to a clinic in Aachen for further investigations,
but unfortunately the damage to the long pastern bone (P1) was
irreparable.
The
Hannoverian bred gelding, by Landadel I, amassed over £40,000
winnings during his short career with Michael. Some of his most
notable wins include the 2002 1.40m Championship at the BSJA Festival
of Show Jumping and the Grand Prix at the Royal Winter Fair, Toronto
in November 2002.
British
Team Manager, Derek Ricketts said:
"This
was a very tragic accident, Landfurst 6 was approaching the prime
time in his International career and we had yet to see the best
of him. This unfortunate happening only compounds our other recent
British losses".
