Jumping - Kerrygold Grand Prix League - Saintfield Gives First
Win For Harry Marshall
|
THOUGH
JUST 15 riders lined out for the Farming Life Grand Prix at Saintfield,
Co. Down today (Saturday), the results caused a major change in
the Kerrygold Grand Prix League rankings.
With
Harry Marshall taking his first Grand Prix win of the 2003 season,
a double placing in today's top six now gives James Kernan pole
position in the League, while Andrew Dunlop also moves ahead of
former leader Clem McMahon, who has been absent on international
duty for the last few league events.
Seven
riders made it through to the jump-off in fair weather at the Saintfield
Super League venue today, but the final battle took place in heavy
rain, changing the aspect of the competition. Marshall, however,
a seasoned campaigner in all weathers, took victory on his own <Splendido>
with a double clear and what turned out to be an unbeatable time.
Never
a man for speeches, Marshall said he was <simply delighted>
at his win, which now puts him in League contention with 15 valuable
points. A win or place at Cavan tomorrow (Sunday) could make the
Ballyclare man a serious threat to the league leaders, who will
undoubtedly be watching him carefully in the weeks ahead.
