Tahoe Seniors Admitted Free to Horse Show and Seniors Day Activities at HITS Tahoe, Sunday, July 22

MINDEN, NEVADA (July 17 2001)-HITS Tahoe Horse Show Circuit is introducing a new event for spectators this year-Seniors Day presented by Douglas County Senior Services and the Douglas County Library. On Sunday, July 22, seniors will be admitted free to the show grounds and free bus service to and from the event will be supplied by the Douglas County Seniors Center. A full acre of the 100-acre HITS Tahoe horse show grounds will be set up for free entertainment, cultural exhibits, and educational displays for seniors.

Event organizer Warren Bottino of the Douglas County Senior Services, along with the Douglas County Library staff and HITS, has prepared a grand finale to the final day of the horse show circuit, kicking off Seniors Day with a 5K Fun Walk & Run starting at 9am and a Horse Shoe Contest starting at 10am. All ages are invited to participate in the HITS Tahoe Seniors Day 5K Fun Walk & Run, a benefit for the Northern Nevada Home School Cross Country Team. Participants in the Fun Walk & Run will start and finish at the HITS Tahoe horse show grounds. Prizes will be awarded in all age divisions from youngsters to seniors, and everyone will receive a HITS Tahoe 5K Fun Walk & Run T-shirt. Pre-registration is encouraged-call 775-783-6455 for details

>From 10am to 1pm, seniors will be treated to hayrides, buggy rides, follies entertainment, barbershop quartet music, health booths, and a free root beer float. Seniors Day will feature a "Turn of the Century" theme with staff members from the county working at the event dressed in "Music Man" style outfits-straw hats, white shirts, and black garters. Seniors attending the event are also invited to dress in 1900s style costumes. A Parasol Contest will be featured and prizes will be awarded in four categories: Funniest, Most Original, Vintage Style, and Most Macho.

Following the Seniors Day festivities, everyone is invited to stay for the biggest purse competition of the HITS Tahoe horse show circuit-the $100,000 Rio Vista Grand Prix starting at 1pm. HITS management expects an international roster of over 20 riders to compete. Winners of Seniors Day contests will have the opportunity to be a part of the awards ceremonies at the conclusion of the $100,000 Rio Vista Grand Prix.
