Walter's
for sale!
by Don Blazer |
But Walter, a black Quarter Horse, honorary author of Walter Spills
The Oats, and a frequent subject of writer Don Blazer's nationally
syndicated column, A Horse, Of Course, has no intention of leaving
his happy home with Blazer.
You see, what's on the market is a sculpted, perfectly-detailed
resin model of Walter.
Not only is the model of Walter available on the Internet, but
his resin likeness will be introduced at the 11th annual West
Coast Model Horse Collectors Jamboree to be held August 16 to
18 at the Fairplex Building 5 in Pomona, California. The event
will attract model horse collectors from all over the country
as well as Europe and Asia. Walter will be there in person to
show how the model resembles the real live horse.
Sheryl Leisure, noted model designer and producer of the collectors
Jamboree, spent weeks immortalizing Walter's equine likeness.
First she took photos of Walter in motion. From the photos she
made sketches of Walter in different poses, then selected the
pose she wanted for the model. Leisure then turned the sketches
into a clay figure. She added and took away clay until Walter
looked just like himself. She sculpted the horse figure and cast
the master mold.
Walter has earned his recognition by expressing his opinion about
horse owners, horse shows, horse health, horse history and famous
horses through Blazer's column. In addition to his literary fame,
he's been a movie star, a retail promotional guy, a college course
assistant and a performance horse.Walter's model, with a copy
of his book, is $75, plus postage, and $65, plus postage, without
his book.
Walter's exact image is 12 inches long and 7 3/4inches high. He
is wearing a red blanket with his name embroidered across the
side. The model is packaged in a clear blister tray and the blister
package is sent in a special shipping carton.
Pictures of Walter and his model can be seen on the Internet at
