Ireland Gets Ready For Nations Cup Battle
IN
ADVANCE OF THIS AFTERNOON¹S historic Nations Cup competition,
Army riders have once again shown their dominance in the Falsterbo,
Sweden, show jumping arena.
Lt.
Shane Carey won this morning¹s (Friday) second Derby Qualifier
on <Killossery>, with Ireland¹s Cian O¹Connor Fourth
on <ABC Landliebe>.
Carey
was second with <Killossery> in the first Derby Qualifier
yesterday (Thursday), while his team-mate Lt. David O¹Brien
won the Grand Prix Qualifier on the same day, riding <Boherdeal
Clover>.
The
Irish-bred Killossery has had a remarkable year, with wins in 2002
at Monaco, Spangenberg, Poznan and Linz.
This
afternoon¹s Nations Cup team at Falsterbo will jump as follows
Denis Coakley
Lt. Shane Carey
Cian O¹Connor
Robert Splaine
In
Lummen, Belgium, meanwhile, the second Irish Nations Cup team of
Captain Gerry Flynn, Edward Doyle ,Darragh Kearins and Shane Breen
will also compete
today (Friday).
If
both the Falsterbo and Lummen teams win, it will be the third year
in a row that Ireland has won both Nations Cups on the same day
at these venues. Results should be complete before 6 p.m.
