Hazel's Horse Wins Newcastle West Grand Prix
The
horse of the late Hazel O'Callaghan, the show jumper who died on
July 3 after injuries sustained in a fall, today (Sunday) won its
first Grand Prix at Newcastle West, Co. Limerick.
Ridden
by 25 yr old Paul O'Shea from Co. Limerick , the horse <Liffey
Valley> previously ridden by 22 year old Hazel before her tragic
accident, won by over three seconds in a six-horse jump-off, beating
Andrew Dunlop, riding <Cruise For Ever>.
The
horse is owned by Hazel's mother, Shelagh O¹Callagan, wife
of Cork property developer Owen O¹Callaghan.
The
Newcastle West Grand Prix is part of the national Kerrygold Grand
Prix League.
Paul
O'Shea said this evening: <I am delighted. I just can¹t
believe it. I wanted the horse to go well for Hazel¹s sake,
and it did.>
