Horses Do Well In Colorado |
The Irish Sport Horse Castaway Lad impresses at High Prairie's $75,000
Grand Prix.
7/20/02 Parker CO. Cara Anthony was in Colorado only one day and
earned the respect of the Grand prix jumping world when she placed
fifth at the High Prairie Grand Prix. Anthony drove in from Spruce
Meadow to compete in the event before heading off for a Grand Prix
in Cincinnati. Castaway Lad was one of only five horses to not knock
down a rail in the difficult event. Unfortunately a quarter time
fault kept her out of the jump off.
Anthony's Castaway Lad is a son of Clover Hill out of a mare named
Cloe Two. Anthony imported Castaway Lad with the help of Dermot
Forde of Ireland. Unfortunately for the Irish Horse World once again
there was no recognition for Castaway Lad as an Irish Horse. Anthony
said she gave the announcers a bio of the horse, but the announcers
didn't read it. Nearly all of the other 30 horses in the Grand Prix
received recognition of their breed.
Castaway Lad has been very successful in recent Grand Prix competitions.
Earlier this year he finished 7th at the $40,000 Wilsonvile Grand
Prix. He was 3rd at the $50,000 Show Park Grand Prix and 5th in
a $25,000 Grand Prix.
Anthony says she is now committed to the Irish Horse. Earlier in
her riding career she was very successful with a gelding by Diamond
Lad. Anthony of Redmond Washington is now on her way to Cincinnati
Ohio.
Fans of show jumping also for the first time saw a Purebred Irish
Draught Horse jump. O'Leary's Irish Diamond, jumping at the 4'6"preliminary
level, held his own against some of the best horse/rider combinations
in North America. The King of Diamond's Grandson, has been jumping
less than six months. This summer the stallion fulfilled a busy
breeding schedule before travelling to High Prairie. The event was
highly attended by Mexican riders hoping to be on Mexico's team
at the South American Games.
