100% sure: European Championship in San Patrignano
During the 6th edition of the "Challenge Vincenzo Muccioli"
in San Patrignano, a meeting among the members of the FEI Jumping
Commission took place with the purpose of evaluating the candidature
of the Community to the 2005 European Championship and verify its
organizational skills and facilities.
The meeting was attended by Max Amman, the Swiss director of the
FEI World Championship and Mr. John Roche, from Ireland, director
of the FEI jumping departement.
When
the meeting was over, Mr. Amman declared to the Italian newspaper
Corriere della Sera "European Championships are very different
by international championships. A bigger number of riders is involved,
a higher participation of the public, more journalists and several
days of competition. Appropriate structures and specifical facilities
are requested for such an important event and a lot of work needs
to be done in this view. The final decision will be communicated
in Mosca in November" he added "however I am 100% sure
that the European Championships will take place in San Patrignano,
maybe 99,9%, to be on the safe side".
It
sounds like an official investiture. The President of the Italian
Equestrian Federation, Mr. Cesare Croce, said: " When we decided
to support the candidature of San Patrignano we were confident on
the results. We are convinced of the possibility to combine sports
with a concrete social committement. Italy would be extremely honoured
to host the European championships after so many years". The
last time this important competition took place in our country was
in 1963, when Graziano Mancinelli gained the title of European champion
in Piazza di Siena.
