Unexpectedly the Lamoborghini prize goes to the Austrian Puck
The
first competition day at San Patrignano 6th CSI-A closed with the
an outsider's surprising success: at the jump-off of the Lamborghini
prize - with fences of 1.50 - the austrian rider Gerfried Puck on
his first horse Olympic 2, left behind the group of eight outstanding
riders who had overcome the barrage. On the podium he preceded two
notorious Dutch pairs: Piet Raymakers second on Schijndel and Eric
van der Fluten third on Audi's Jikke.
Immediately after the first three came a group of outstanding riders
- Johan Philippaerts, Hubert Bourdy, Ludo Philippaerts, Hendrik
Anaconda, Ricardo Jurado, Jos Lansink and Michel Robert - just to
prove once more the engagement whereby the top world athletes tackled
San Patrignano's courses, from the very first day. An opening day,
by the way, when the italian team itself had a word to say by achieving
brilliant results with Gianni Govoni's second place in the class
reserved for young horses and the first place in McDonald's prize
which was won by Piergiorgio Bucci who took the liberty to leave
the oustanding Swiss Markus Fuchs behind thus confirming the trust
accorded to him by the italian coach Duccio Bartalucci.
The second day classes will start at 1700, first a class for young
horses, followed by two very popular classes: the speed class "Acqua
Uliveto" - a speed class with natural fences - end the tamoil
prize, a two-phase-class with fences of 1.45.
