Holland strikes again, and yet again van der Vleuten
The
real dominator of the second day at the challenge Vincenzo Muccioli,
is the Duch rider Eric van der Vleuten: the number 36 of the world
rankings took infact the first place in today's second competition,
the Grand Chasse "Acqua Uliveto" a class against the time
(table C) which uses the natural fences of San Patrignano's arena.
The Dutch rider aboard Boere, a 14 years old mare, performed a most
fast round which pushed him beyond the Belgian champion Jos Lansink,
second on AK John Z. On the third and fourth place respectively
the German Engelmann on Candela and number 1 of the italian jumping
team, Jerry Smit on Ikamora. Bad luck followed the performances
of the other Italians, particularly Roberto Arioldi's marked by
a fault at the very end of a quite good round.
At the following press conference the Grande Chasse winner declared:
"I'm naturally quite satisfied with the result, last but not
the least because my horse had just recovered from an incident and
today has been the first competition after its convalescence. Today
the competition ground was in a perfect state and in a speed class
it is very important that the grass allows the horse to turn fast
and tight". More positive comments about the turf condition
and the show-jumping organization came from the rider Emile Hendrix.
In his opinion San Patrignano wholly fulfills the requirements to
host a European Championship. Lastly the Federal President, Cesare
Croce has mentioned how Italy has waited for a designation to host
the European Champioship since 1963 when the great Graziano Mancinelli
won in Rome at Piazza di Siena.
