Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series Leader Board Continues to Take Shape Following June Events

Tampa, FL – July 3, 2002 –The 2002 Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series saw 13 exciting member events in June – nine in the East Conference and four in the West Conference. The series kicked off in February and runs through November, culminating in the Series’ first-ever Year-End Championship to be held at the National Horse Show.

Charlie Jayne and Melbourne currently lead the junior division in the East Conference, and Marilyn Little and Corrada sit in first place in the amateur-owner division. In the West Conference, Andrew Ramsay and Lisa lead the junior division, while Catherine Boettcher and Cordellia B sit atop the amateur-owner division standings. For the first time this year, the Show Jumping Hall of Fame is offering separate series for amateur-owner riders and for junior riders.

East Conference – Junior Division
In June’s first East Conference competition for juniors, the combined High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Class at the Showplace Spring Classic I, May 30 - June 2 in South Beloit, IL, current Series leader Charlie Jayne and Melbourne took first place.

Charlie’s sister Maggie Jayne, aboard Kinda Blue, rode away with the win in the $10,000 Turtle Rock Farm High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic, held at the Showplace Spring Classic II in Wayne, IL, June 5-9. On the same weekend, the $5,000 Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Stake II was held at the Upperville Colt & Horse Show in Upperville, VA. Sparky Frost, a junior, riding Van Gogh, tied for seventh place with amateur-owner rider, Beth Forbes-Howard and Stormin Norman. Frost was the only junior to compete in the combined class.

Maggie Jayne again rode Kinda Blue to the win in the $10,000 Turtle Rock Farm High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic held at the Showplace Spring Classic III in Wayne, IL, June 12-16. The horse-and-rider pair currently occupy the third spot in the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Series standings. With her other mount, Jubulent, Jayne placed second and currently sits in second place in the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Series standings.

In another combined class, the $10,000 United States Equestrian Team (USET) Junior/Amateur-Owner Talent Derby present by BET On Jazz, held at the Bayer/USET Festival of Champions, presented by State Line Tack, in Gladstone, NJ, June 20-23, Evan Coluccio placed first and second on White Russian and Gulit, respectively. Coluccio and White Russian currently hold eighth place in the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Series standings.

Lara Gay rode Noah, Rio’s Riccarda, and London Calling to a third, fourth, and eighth place finish, respectively, in the $10,000 Nutraceutical Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic held at the Farmington Horse Show in Avon, CT, June 30- July 2.

West Conference – Junior Division
Andrew Ramsay, Show Jumping Hall of Fame Series leader aboard Lisa, turned in the best performance by a junior rider in the $7,500 Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic at the Showpark June Jamboree in Del Mar, CA, May 30-June 2, when he rode Nighty to a third place finish. Ramsay and Nighty occupy the fourth spot in the Series standings.

On the following weekend, Ramsay took the top honors aboard Lisa. The pair placed first in the $7,500 Nutrena Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic, held at the Oaks Blenheim Classic in San Juan Capistrano, CA, June 5-9.

In the $5,000 Nutrena Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic held at the Oaks Blenheim Summer Classic in San Juan Capistrano, CA, June 12-16, junior rider Randy Sherman and Caldero emerged victorious. He rode two mounts in the class and earned a second place ribbon aboard Pikeur and fifth place honors on Kosmanta. Hassey and Pikeur, along with Nicole Albertson and Khomedian, are tied for fifth place in the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Series standings. He and Kosmanta share the eighth spot in the Series standings with Lane Clarke and Carlino 4.

East Conference – Amateur-Owner Division

Separate junior and amateur-owner classes on May 26 and June 1, respectively, at the Devon Horse Show in Devon, PA, meant that amateur-owner riders took part in one more class in June than juniors did. Ashley Baker and Dollar D’Amour won the $10,000 Show Jumping Hall of Fame Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic. Baker currently sits in fifth place in the Show Jumping Hall of Fame standings.

In a combined class, the $10,000 Turtle Rock Farm High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic, held at the Showplace Spring Classic II, Erin Haas and Cameron were the highest-finishing amateur-owner pair when they took fourth place.

Current Show Jumping Hall of Fame Series standings leader, Marilyn Little and Corrada took the blue ribbon in the $5,000 Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Stake, held at the Upperville Colt & Horse Show.

Mary Moricoli rode her horse, Feleena, to a fifth place finish in the $10,000 Turtle Rock Farm High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic, held at the Showplace Spring Classic III. Moricoli and Feleena were the highest-finishing amateur-owner combination in the class.

With their third place finish, Michelle Pia and Mable were the highest-finishing amateur-owner pair in the $10,000 USET Junior/Amateur-Owner Talent Derby presented by BET On Jazz, held at the Bayer/USET Festival of Champions, presented by State Line Tack.

Amateur-owner rider, Summer Gay, rode Tyler and Pamina to a first and second place finish, respectively, in the $10,000 Nutraceutical Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic at the Farmington Horse Show.

West Conference – Amateur-Owner Division

Occupying fourth place in the Series standings, Trevor White and Classico VI placed second in the $7,500 Nutrena Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic, a combined class held at the Oaks Blenheim Classic. White and Classico VI were the highest-finishing amateur-owner pair in the class.

Simon Nizri and Citizen Paulo were once again in the spotlight when they took second place in the $5,000 Nutrena Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic at the Oaks Blenheim Summer Classic, the highest position obtained in the class by an amateur-owner pair.

Currently in a tie for fifth place with Julie Jensen and NZ Omni in the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Series standings, Larry Hollahan and Sky King emerged victorious in the $1,500 Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic at the Colorado Circuit Preview.

The Show Jumping Hall of Fame and Museum at Busch Gardens in Tampa, FL was established in 1987 and formally opened in 1989. It was organized to promote the sport of show jumping and to immortalize the legends of the men, women and horses who have made great contributions to the sport. The Show Jumping Hall of Fame also conducts the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series, held under Grand Prix rules and specifications. The Series, which is sponsored in part by a grant from the National Horse Sports Foundation, holds classes at 51 horse shows across the country. It is designed to give amateur-owner and junior riders an opportunity to compete at higher levels and serves as a proving ground for many riders who aspire to someday represent the United States in international competition.

The National Horse Sports Foundation (NHSF) is a publicly supported charitable and educational organization whose purposes include providing financial and technical support for amateur equestrian programs for adults and children including therapeutic riding and competitions for the disabled.
