Lt.
Shane Carey Takes BJ Trophy At Falsterbo
|
Army
rider Lt. Shane Carey kept up his fine record at Falsterbo, Sweden
this morning (Sunday) with a lightning-fast round on Laughton's
Lass to take the BJ Trophy.
One
of the last few to jump from 47 starters, Limerick-born Carey craftily
guided the 11 year-old mare clear in the very warm conditions, and
took almost a second off the time of long-time leader Cristino Garcia
of Spain on Loughtown Atlanta.
"This
was a very fast Class and he had to go full tilt from start to finish,"
said a delighted Chef d'Equipe of the Irish team, Comdt. Gerry Mullins.
"He left out strides here and there, and he left them out very
well."
Last
year, Lt. Carey had been Leading Rider at the Falsterbo show, and
had also taken the Grand Prix, and today's success adds to the traditional
good record Irish riders and horses have had at the Swedish venue.
On
Thursday, Lt. David O'Brien on Killossory Kruisette took the MCR
trophy.
With
Show jumping one of the most popular sports in Sweden, the latest
success is another boost to the industry in Ireland. "It's
great exposure for Irish horses here," said Comdt. Mullins.
