Jumping - Kerrygold Grand Prix League - Bartlett Makes Grand
Prix Debut Win
|
TREVOR
Bartlett from Coleraine, Co, Derry, had his first Grand Prix win
of 2003 at National Balmoral in Belfast today (Thursday) and enters
the Kerrygold League with 10 points.
However,
Trevor, who was third to go in the jump-off, has a long way to go
to catch the current league leader, Harry Marshall, who now has
68 points, a total added to at Balmoral with a Second Place on his
trusty <Splendido>.
Heavy
rain dogged the 13-horse jump-off, and Marshall was a shade slow
coming into the last fence, yielding fractions of a second to Bartlett,
and was therefore unable to catch his fellow-Ulsterman.
Sophie
Hoorn continued with her consistent League performance, placing
Fourth today on <Lord High Flight>, while Cian O'Connor returned
to the national Grand Prix fray, riding Shelagh O'Callaghan's <Mahon
Point> into Sixth.
The
Kerrygold League table is now shaping up into a four-rider showdown
between Marshall, Smyth, Kernan and Courtney, but, as in previous
years, some surprises may be just a few competitions away. And with
16 Grands Prix still left to run, it would be a foolish punter who
placed any bets at this stage of the game.
