Two
Men Convicted for Pony Cruelty

At
Hayward's Heath Magistrates Court, today, Friday 18 July, David
Jack and Jason Passey were found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering
to a 10 hh 18 month old bay filly known as Isla.
Jack,
47, of 106 Forge Way Billingshurst, West Sussex and Passey, 30,
of 41 Little Preston Street, Brighton, East Sussex have had their
sentencing deferred until 7th August 2003 at Horsham Magistrates
Court.
On
19th June last year a complaint was received by a concerned member
of the public about a severely emaciated pony being kept at livery
at The Tedfold Stud in Billingshurst, West Sussex.
Ted
Barnes, ILPH Field Officer, who was sent out to investigate the
same day comments, "Almost the entire length of Isla's spine
was visible, along with her ribs and pelvic structure. Her hindquarters
were caved in and showed little sign of any fat. On top of this
she was suffering the apparent effects of rainscold or severe lice
infestation.
Of
the verdict Field Officer Ted Barnes commented, "Let us hope
that magistrates will pass a sentence that reflects the severity
of the crime.
