Jumping - Ireland Joint Second In Falsterbo Nations Cup
|
A
determined squad at Falsterbo, Sweden, today (Friday) signalled
that Ireland is still very much in Nations Cup form, with a joint
second place in the Swedish Nations Cup.
Nine
countries took part, and the Cup was won by host nation Sweden with
24 penalties, Ireland sharing second spot with Switzerland, both
on 24 faults.
Highlights
of the Irish performance included a second round clear by Cian O'Connor
and <Irish Independent Annabella> and two four-fault rounds
by Marie Burke and <Chippison>.
Chef
d'Equipe Peter Leonard said afterwards: <<It was an effective
team effort by Marie Burke, Clem McMahon and Capt. Gerry Flynn,
while Cian O'Connor was outstanding, taking one of only six individual
clears in the second round. Both Sweden and New Zealand fielded
very strong teams, as both were taking part in Olympic selection
here today, and the strong course reflected the nature of this.
I think Ireland delivered a high class act at a very high class
show.>>
