Horses selected to represent the Irish Sport Horse Studbook at the FEI World Breeding Championships for Young Horses in Show Jumping, Lanaken, Belgium, 2001.

Irish sport horses were selected from the 5, 6 and the 7 year old and older showjumping classes held at the Kerrygold Horse Show (CSIO) to represent the Irish Sport Horse studbook in Lanaken, at the World Breeding Jumping Championships for young horses in September (20th-23rd 2001).The four top placed eligible Irish sport horses in the five and six year old classes were automatically selected for Lanaken. A fifth horse may be selected in each age category from those competing in Dublin.The two top placed eligible Irish sport horses in the 7 year old and older class in Dublin were also automatically selected and three further horses may be selected. These 3 additional horses may not necessarily have competed at Dublin. In order for a horse to be eligible to represent the Irish Sport Horse studbook at the World Breeding Championships for Young horses, it has to be registered in the Irish Horse Register, be by an IHR Approved stallion and have its dam documented on its passport. Horses that have been registered with another studbook at birth and therefore do not have an IHR passport, or horses that are by an IHR Supplementary stallion, are not eligible for selection. 5 Year Olds: The Sportsman 5 year old National Championship. There were a total of 43 entries in this class with 25 being eligible to represent the Irish Sport Horse studbook. The top five placed eligible horses selected in Dublin, are as follows:
#Flogas Black Magic, by Renkum Englishman (KWPN), out of Clontybunia Lass (ISH), by Touchstone (ISH). He was bred by Michael Leahy, is owned by Tiernan Gill Jr., and is ridden by Tom Slattery.
#Rockcliffe Reef, by Orange Reef (TB), out of Carrickbanagher Joy (ISH). He was bred by S.P. Galligan, is owned by Noel Kavanagh and is ridden by Diane Beecher.
#Shannondale Truman, by Cavalier (Holst), out of Diamond Beg (RID), by Diamond Lad (RID). He was bred by Marian Tighe, and is owned and ridden by Joan Greene.
#Renkum Flight, by Renkum Englishman (KWPN), out of Flight Top (ISH), by Carrolls Flight (ISH). She was bred by Thomas Nolan, is owned by Thomas McGuigan and is ridden by Ronan McGuigan.
#Shanroe Secret, by Cavalier (Holst), out of Ard Consalle (ISH), by First Consul (TB). She was bred by Mrs K.P. Smyth, is owned by Dr Anthony Smyth, and is ridden by Roddy Dean.
(These horses were placed 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th and 9th respectively in the above class in Dublin.)

6 Year Olds: The Bellevue 6 year old National Championship There were 43 entries for this class and 29 were eligible to represent the Irish Sport Horse studbook. The top five eligible horses selected in Dublin, are as follows:
#Millfall Hill, by Clover Hill (RID), out of Tremblant Lady (ISH), by Tremblant (TB). He was bred by Ian Smyth, is owned by William Smyth and is ridden by Tom Slattery.
#Windgates Paragon, by Cavalier (Holst), out of Golden Dynasty (KWPN), by Animo (KWPN). He was bred by Diana H. Warrington, is owned by Edward Cawley and is ridden by Conor Swail.
#Cavaleve, by Cavalier (Holst), out of New Year Eve (ISH), by Stetchworth Lad (TB). He was bred by Norman Edgar Watt and is owned and ridden by Linda Courtney.
#Mister Transmission, by Cavalier (HOLST), out of Gina XIV (SRAD). He was bred by Max Hauri, is owned by Miguel Bravo and is ridden by Marion Hughes.
Fashionable, by Cruising (ISH), out of Skylight (ISH), by Sky Boy(TB). He was bred by Iris Kellett, is owned by David Prentice and is ridden by Edward Little.
(The above horses were placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively in the above class at Dublin.)
Last year both Millfall Hill and Cavaleve represented the Irish Sport Horse studbook in the 5 year old championships at Lanaken. Millfall Hill was placed 23rd in the final and Cavaleve was 15th in the last chance class.
7 Year Olds: The Rockbarton Grade BC National Championship
The following four horses will represent the Irish Sport Horse studbook:
#Master Ballinteskin, by Master Imp (TB), out of Cushinstown Glory (AID), by Hail Titan (TB). He was bred by Simon McCarthy, and is owned and ridden by Eddie Moloney.
#Newmarket Girl, by Furisto (Hann), out of Fianna Girl (ISH), by Smooth Stepper (TB). She was bred and is owned by Billy Daly and is ridden by Mark OSullivan.
#Windgates Mystique, by Cruising (ISH), out of Winning Promise (TB), by Roi Guillaume (TB). She was bred by William Fenelon, is owned by Edward Cawley and is ridden by Conor Swail.
#Hill Cruise, by Cruising (ISH), out of Holly Hill (AID), by Clover Hill (RID). She was bred by Harold McGahern, is owned by Cormac Hanley and is ridden by Karl Hanley.

Last year Newmarket Girl represented the ISH studbook in the 6 year old championships at Lanaken. She was placed 8th in the last chance class.
Additional entry: The Irish Horse Board has requested an additional entry in the 6 year old class as only four 7 year olds have been selected. If this application is successful, Killy Jones, by Dow Jones Courcel (SF), out of Killyhill (ISH), by Clover Hill (RID), bred and owned by Brian McIvor and ridden by Linda Courtney, will also represent the ISH studbook in the six year old class. He was placed 7th in Dublin in the ISH studbook championships for 6 year olds and was 3rd in the Dairygold Boomerang Championship final at Millstreet.

Irish Horse Board prize money and travel grants.

The Irish Horse Board provided $3,000 in prize money for the Irish Sport Horse studbook championships for 5, 6 and 7 year olds, which were run in conjunction with the relevant competitions referred to above. The IHB also will give a travel grant of £1,200 to each of the above horses to compete at Lanaken. This travel grant will also be payable in respect of stallions that represent the Irish Sport Horse studbook in the Sires of the World competition at Lanaken. Irish Sport Horse Studbook Stallion Inspections 2001

Due to the Foot and Mouth restrictions this year the spring stallion inspections were postponed until June. The stallions that have been approved following these inspections are as follows: -Six Thoroughbreds were approved:
#Mise Eire (IRE), 1996, Brown, by Project Manager, dam by Majestic Light (USA). He is owned by William Smyth, The Ridge, Old Leighlin, Co. Carlow.
#Posidonas (GB), 1992, Bay, by Slip Anchor, dam by Dance in Time (CAN). Owned by Sweet Wall Stud, 51a Loughanmore Road, Co. Antrim.
#Prince Valiant (GB), 1996, Bay, Be my Chief (USA), dam by Prince Tenderfoot (USA). Owned by Noel L. Russell, Tarmon West, Kilkee, Co Clare.
#Royal Dane (IRE), 1995, Bay, by Danehill (USA), dam by Royal Match. Owned by P.J. OReilly, Shraugh Stud, Louisburgh, Co. Mayo.
#Shareef (GB), 1997, Bay, by Shareef Dancer (USA), dam by Bustino. Owned by Sweet Wall Stud, 51a Loughanmore Road, Co. Antrim.
#Summer at Satatoga, 1992, Bay, by Saratoga Six, dam by Roberto. Owned by Casey Featherstone-Woolward, Glan Enniskeen, Reenkilla Lauragh, Killarney, Co. Kerry.
-One Registered Irish Draught stallion was approved Mackney Clover (ex Sir Padraig Hill), 1996, Chestnut, by Clover Hill (RID), dam by Diamond Lad (RID). Owned and bred by P.J. Fitzpatrick, Brittas, Clonaslee, Co. Laois. This stallion had 15 points in showjumping prior to inspection, he now has 43 points.

-One Riding Pony was approved Killoughey Clover, 1996, Bay, by Diamond Clover (RID), dam by Grey Macha (RID). Owned and bred by P.J. Fitzpatrick, Brittas, Clonaslee, Co. Laois. This stallion had 24 points in showjumping prior to inspection, he now has 49 points.

There were 27 sport horse stallions inspected of which 9 were selected for performance testing and will each receive a grant of £2,000. Twelve Irish draught stallions were inspected with 2 selected for grant aided performance testing (grant of £2,000). These grants are provided under the National Development Plan 200-2006.In addition a number of stallions standing outside Ireland have also been approved for use by AI., viz.,

#Hand in Glove (USA)- a 1978, brown thoroughbred stallion by Best Turn (USA), dam by Buckpasser (TB). Owned by Bernard Le Coutrois, Haras De Brullemail, 61390 Brullemail, France.

#Randi (Virtual Village Randi)- a 1984 grey Hungarian Sport Horse by Ramzes III, dam by Stanley (Holst). Owned by Mr. J. Whitaker and available though Mrs. Mary McCann, Hartwell Stud, Naas, Co. Kildare. The inspections for the approval of sport horse stallions will be held in the autumn.
