USA TAKE ON CANADA IN NORTH AMERICAN YOUNG RIDERS' CHAMPIONSHIPS

USA Equestrian (formerly AHSA) announced today that the 2001 FEI North American Young Riders' Championships, sponsored by State Line Tack from August 7-12th at Tempel Farms, Wadsworth, IL will feature teams and individuals from the USA and Canada. Riders will compete for honors in the three Olympic disciplines; Eventing, Dressage and Jumping.

The NAYRC has been designated by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) as a USA Junior Olympics - Equestrian event. Young Riders between the ages of 16-21 are eligible to compete following qualifying competitions that were held around the country since August 2000.

Last year's individual gold medalists were Sara Kozumplik (Eventing) from Clifton, VA, Louise Labrucherie (Dressage) from Santa Rosa, CA and Lindsay McLean (Jumping) from White Rock, British Columbia. The USA won the team gold medal in eventing and dressage while Canada took home the jumping crown.

Several leading international riders began their career at the NAYRC, including double Olympic eventing team medalist Karen O'Connor, Sydney Olympic show jumping team member Lauren Hough and Seoul Olympic show jumping silver medalist Greg Best.

USA Equestrian Inc., as the National Equestrian Federation of the U.S., is the regulatory body for the Olympic and World Championship sports of dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, reining, show jumping, and vaulting, as well as 19 other breeds and disciplines of equestrian competition. As the country's largest multi-breed organization, the Federation has over 77,000 members and recognizes more than 2,800 competitions nationwide each year. It governs all aspects of competition, including educating and licensing all judges, stewards, and technical delegates who officiate at these shows.
