Year-Old Walsh Wins Millstreet Derby
DUBLIN
RIDER DAN Walsh took a surprise win at the prestigious Millstreet
Derby, Co. Cork today (Sunday) with <Evening Herald Normandy>,
the horse
that helped launch the international career of Nations Cup rider
Cian O'Connor.
The
19 yr-old Walsh, who is based in O'Connor's Copperalley Yard in
Maynooth, rode the French-bred gelding in a faultless winning round,
beating more seasoned campaigners from the Kerrygold Grand Prix
circuit.
Normandy
in the past has carried Cian O'Connor to three European Young Rider
Championships and won a Team Silver Medal at Hartpury in July of
2000. The horse has also been a member of four senior Nations Cup
teams.
Dan
Walsh was the winner of the 2001 RDS Young Riders Bursary, and this
year won the Holmestead 1.35m Young Riders' Final at the Kerrygold
