Equine Society to benefit Tobacco Farmers
The
Board of Directors of the Carolina Equine Society,inc has requested
a partnership grant from the Golden Leaf Foundation and the NC Tobacco
Trust
Fund to import 40 well bred thoroughbred mares into the State of
North Carolina.
This pilot program will introduce to tobacco farmers a new rotational
crop and potentially a new industry into the state .( Breeding and
raising for sale TB horses is the #1 agricultural industry in Kentucky
and Maryland ,Florida ,California and New York all derive huge revenue
from this renewable crop.)
The grant request to the NC Tobacco Trust Fund will provide the
money necessary to convert and modify existing Tobacco barns and
fencing into "Habitat for
Horses"(c)(2003).
This program is only available to tobacco farmers and allotment
holders.
