horse Show Jumping - Kerrygold Grand Prix League - Moloney Repeats Wexford TriumphIreland Finish Fifth, But Qualify For Athens

PROVING that his July win at North Wexford was no flook, Eddie Moloney repeated the trick today (Saturday) with the same horse <Kilmoylan Warrior>, on the sunlit grass arena at Barnadown Stud.

And as if to show that the Moloneys are a force to be reckoned with, his brother Richie took third place on <Appolinaire>, the horse that he steered to victory last week at Millstreet.

The Army also flew the flag at North Wexford today, with Lt. David O'Brien finishing second, and, for good measure, taking fifth place as well. Peter Smyth, hero of the Dublin Horse Show with <Zara's Pride>, was the fastest of the first round four-faulters in sixth place, while Michael Kearins reappeared in fine form on <Polanski>, taking fourth.

Kilkenny's Eddie Moloney, who carved his name in the League history books in July by winning a Grand Prix on his first outing with < Kilmoylan Warrior>, quipped after his win today: < Well, at least I can now afford to put new shoes on the horse. He really does need to be shod.>

Though the Moloney family outing today does not affect the Top Six placings in the Kerrygold League, Lt. David O'Brien's performance brings him within three points of James Kernan, while Peter Smyth climbs to just a single point below League leader Harry Marshall.

Tomorrow's (Sunday) Super League fixture at Limerick therefore promises to be something of a battle, with Marshall defending his pole position against Smyth, and Lt. David O'Brien again turning out with both of his Top Six horses from today. James Kernan is listed with three horses for Limerick, including <Out Of Touch>, while Shane Breen will also be attempting to move up the ladder from his current joint fifth position.
