Linda
Algotsson (SWE), riding the 13-year old gelding Stand by Me, won
the 13th leg of the FEI Eventing World Cup held in the Polish
town of Strzegom from 8 through 10 August. She was equal 2nd with
Karin Donckers (BEL) after Dressage having scored 39.8 points.
She secured her runner-up position after a clear cross country
and finally conquered the 1st place after a faultless Jumping
test. Linda's result is all the more remarkable as she also took
the 4th place with Fair Dobbin.
The
runner up position went to Belgium's Karin Donckers on Captain
Nightcap with a final result of 40.8. Competition was extremely
tight as Karin and Linda were equal 2nd after Dressage and moved
up to become equal 1st after a clear cross country. The point
that made the difference was the penalty Karin scored for exceeding
the time allowed in the Jumping test. She also took the 6th place
on the 12-year old gelding Chumbawumba whom she began riding this
year.
The
3rd place also went to a woman. Twenty-two year old Simone Deitermann
(GER) on Flambeau H3 performed the qualifier's best Dressage test
scoring an outstanding 38.8. 3.2 penalties at the Cross Country
made her lose her temporary leader's position and 1 time penalty
in the Jumping definitely relegated her to 3rd place. The pair
are no newcomers to the World Cup series as they also competed
at Bonn-Rodderberg where they scored 8 points counting toward
the standings. 2003 has been successful for them so far as they
won the CIC*** Marbach (GER) last May.
Eddy
Stibbe (AHO) took the 5th and 10th position riding Eton and Autumn
Breeze respectively. This is Eddy's third World Cup qualifier
after Gatcombe in August last year and Lulworth in July 2003.
He currently holds 12 points and given that he is the only rider
representing the Caribbean island of the Netherlands Antilles
on the international Eventing scene, his presence in Pau is beyond
doubt.
22
riders and 31 horses took place in the Strzegom World Cup qualifier;
16 riders and 20 horses completed the competition

held in Moscow (RUS) simultaneously with Strzegom. This result
places him among the leaders of the standings and insures him
qualification for Pau. Nine riders and 11 horses began in Moscow
